Easy to keep clean, easy to feed, a hide and a heat source. Harris names this first.

- The handling snake. Secure cage, then you pick it up.
- Enclosure
- Escape-proof lid. Hide, water, aspen or similar. Hatchlings in a smaller box.
- Heat
- 75–82°F ambient, a warm end near 85°F.
- Humidity
- 40–50%. Dry is safer than damp.
- Diet
- Frozen/thawed mice. Regulars buy feeders here even when they are not adding an animal.
