Red-Footed Tortoise

Chelonoidis carbonarius

Personable and long-lived. They eat every day and they are messy. Be honest about the maintenance.

Handling: They walk. They do not want to be carried around a party.
Enclosure: Floor space, humid hide, outdoor time when Connecticut allows it. They outgrow a tank.
Heat: 80–85°F ambient, basking the high 80s to 90. Soak water.
Humidity: 70–80% for the shell. Dry conditions can cause pyramiding.
Diet: Greens, fruit in measure, animal protein in small doses. Every day.
